On August 31 at the JW Marriot Hotel in Seoul, Dr. Sun Myung Moon kicked off Peace Tour III at the "Seoul Rally for the Liberation of the Homeland of Cosmic Peace and the Return of Heaven and Earth to God." Over 1,000 guests took part in this event, including Dr. Chung Hwang Kwak, chairman of UPF; Rev. Sun Jo Hwang, president of FFWPU Korea; and Lieutenant General Sun Min Lee of the reserved forces.

In his speech Dr. Moon presented a way to prevent and heal interracial, international and interreligious conflict and strife afflicting the global village, saying, "What God detests most are the struggles within humankind.” At the same time, the message of peace was delivered concurrently in 11 other cities of Korea, beginning the pattern of holding 12 concurrent events in a different nation every day for 40 days.
